How we make it

We keep the range short so we can keep making the same things well. Orders leave Bedford within 2 business days. If a piece is not right, you have 30 days to send it back.

A short range, made repeatedly

We carry 13 pieces across 4 categories, between $28.00 and $148.00. A desk collects whatever is nearest, so the range stays small and each piece has one job. Making the same twelve things over and over is what lets us keep the tolerances tight and the timber from the same few boards, which is the thing you notice when two pieces sit side by side.

Materials

Kiln-dried American black walnut and white oak, wool felt from a mill that still presses it rather than needle-punches it, and solid brass that we leave unlacquered. Nothing is veneered. A veneered edge looks identical on the day it ships and tells the truth about two years later.

Finish and wear

Every wooden surface is sanded to 320 and finished with a hardwax oil that sits in the grain instead of on top of it. It will mark. A ring from a cup sands out in a minute with the paper we include, which is not true of a lacquer, and the brass will go from bright to warm brown over about a year.
